CogJS is no longer actively maintained
CogJS was an experimental JavaScript toolkit created to explore optional interface patterns for neurodivergent and cognitively diverse users. It used custom HTML attributes to add behaviours such as content chunking, contextual hints, reading assistance, reminders and user-controlled presentation changes.
The final npm release is version 0.0.36, published on 26 April 2025. The package and source repository remain available for historical and technical reference, but no active development, support or compatibility maintenance is promised.
Not an accessibility solution or conformance tool
CogJS is not an accessibility overlay, a substitute for accessible design and development, or evidence of WCAG conformance. Its features alter interface behaviour and may help or hinder people depending on the task, implementation and individual. Any continued use requires independent review and testing with users.
Using the package
Existing installations should pin an exact version, review the source, test every enabled behaviour in context and plan to maintain their own integration. New production projects should not adopt CogJS on the assumption that it is supported or production-ready.
COGAI continues to explore cognitive accessibility through education, research and organisational capability. The retention of CogJS does not make its experimental patterns part of a COGAI standard or framework.
